With 1st of October 2017, the change of the Master-program Political, Economic and Legal Philosophy (PELP) to a Double Degree program came into effect.
WHAT’S NEW? It is now possible to study PELP as Double Degree at the University of Graz and Bochum. It will be still possible to study PELP as usual without Double Degree.
The Double Degree is offered together with the University of Bochum. It is required to study for one semester at the Ruhr-University Bochum in order to complete the program.
In Bochum you have to sucessfully complete a minimum of 10 ECTS-credits in working at your MA-thesis. Note that your co-supervisor needs to be from the University of Bochum. All in all you have to complete 30 ECTS credits during your stay abroad. You can find more informations here.
“Double Degree” doesn’t mean that the students receive two academic titles, but that they receive one title (Master of Arts) from two Universities.
From the Curriculum:
When studying a Double Degree Program, the students are receiving two national diplomas, if they completed, of the 120 obligatory ECTS-points, at least 30 ECTS points at the defined partner University. In both diplomas it is noted, that it’s a commonly commissioned academic title, and that the two diplomas are only valid in that combination. The student has achieved the right to an academic title.
The Double Degree program can only be studied in English language. This includes lectures and courses as well as the MA-thesis and the MA-exam. The exception is the free subjects, which can be taken in German.
With the Double Degree the PELP program also receives an intensified research focus, which is guaranteed through the quality and international reputation of the participating universities and lecturers.
Keep the deadline of the institute for the application in mind. Regarding the stay abroad and the mobility-scholarship (ERASMUS), please consult the information and deadlines provided by the
Should the deadlines be in conflict to each other the application might have to be sent before April 30th. Please think about this when planning to participate with the Double Degree programme.
The Ruhr-University Bochum is the first and largest university in the Ruhr area. Around 3300 international students study in Bochum. Of these 630 are PhD students and around 500 are incoming students (participants of the Double Degree count for the latter).
In Bochum the participants can focus on the main topic Markets & Morality. Economic theories often regard market systems as a system that is devoid of morality. Moral concern may only play a role on the overriding level of regulations by law. The following questions are of main concern for this topic:
- Is this model appropriate for the description of markets at the present time?
- Is morality to be considered as a social resource within the markets?
- Which agents in markets are moral agents and which moral norms are effective for them?
The theme Markets & Morality is one of the main topics of the degree “Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics” (EELP) at the Ruhr-University Bochum. For further information click here.
