The section Moral and Political Philosophy is very happy to announce a guest lecture by Professor Walter Sinnott-Armstrong (Duke University) on October 10, 2022, at 5 p.m.
Title: Can AI ever have moral rights?
Abstract: Saudi Arabia awarded citizenship to a robot, and the European Parliament is considering legislation giving some legal rights to computers. Does this make any sense? What conditions would an AI need to meet in order to be a person with moral rights and duties? Can an AI ever meet those conditions? To begin to answer such questions, I will discuss whether an AI could ever have consciousness and free will and whether an AI can make moral judgments.
The lecture will take place in Heinrichstr. 26, 5th floor, room SR 09.53.
We look forward to seeing you at the lecture.
Best wishes,
Priv.-Doz. Dr. Norbert Paulo
